In 1946, after returning home from World War II, retired Army Air Corps pilot William Carter searched for a way to honor the friends he had served alongside.

Spending quiet afternoons in his backyard workshop, he began crafting small windmills inspired by the aircraft he once flew and the American spirit he proudly defended.

Using simple tools and careful hands, each piece became more than a decoration—it became a tribute to courage, sacrifice, and freedom.

Neighbors admired them. Fellow veterans requested them. Before long, his handcrafted windmills became a symbol of remembrance and patriotism throughout the community.

Today, the 250th USA Pilot SNPY Garden Windmill carries on that inspiration—celebrating the bravery of America's Greatest Generation while bringing movement, character, and patriotic pride to gardens across the country.
